Here is a practical guide received from a fellow clinician, Ian Butler, M.S., M.A. He gives a great overview of how to pray with these spiritual warfare principles in a simple, direct manner.

Brief Overview of the 5 Keys of Unbound (Neal Lozano)

The first key involves ongoing repentance and conversion as the hidden sins of our heart are revealed.

The second key: learn how to access the power of forgiving from the heart. Here is a link to a prayer guide on forgiveness.

The third key involves renouncing specific enemies of the heart ... affirming that you are no longer in agreement with the lie(s) buried in your heart and mind. Renouncing the spirit of bitterness, rejection, lust, loneliness, etc. Renouncing the idol of fame or recognition. It is important to heal the unresolved memories/experiences related to when these got "wired in", but it is also important to renounce the specific sins with your will, to shut the door on these spiritual snares.

The fourth key has to do with taking proper authority, declaring victory, and commanding spirits that you have renounced to leave.

The fifth refers to receiving the Father's blessing that is ours through Christ. "This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased." Learn to receive His blessing, be healed, prosper and thrive.

Practical Guide to using the 5 Keys

Make a list of your weak places the enemy may try to exploit.  Write down the virtue that corrects that vice right next to it. For example:

  • Anger | Gentleness
  • Gluttony | Temperance
  • Laziness | Diligence
  • Lust | Purity

Then use this list to pray the 5 Keys of Unbound

  1. Repentance: 'Jesus, forgive me for...' and I go down my list, confessing only recent sins since my last repentance.
  2. Forgiveness: 'Jesus I choose to forgive...' focus on recent events and triggers and not things I've already forgiven.
  3. Renounce: 'In the name of Jesus I renounce the spirit of...' and here I go right down the list of vices.
  4. Authority: 'In the name of Jesus I command all of the spirits I have renounced to leave me right now and go to the foot of the Cross.’ (Warning! In some instances it is wiser to leave out the words "I command" and instead ask Jesus to deliver you from the evil renounced...go here for examples and to see instructions).
  5. Blessing: Here I just read through my list of virtues and ask God the Father to bless me with them.

It might be best for most beginners to simply write the whole prayer out word for word.

A Sample Prayer Against Anxiety:

Repent: Jesus, please forgive me for any sinful anxiety...

Forgive: ...and please forgive anyone who helped instill this into me.

Renounce: In the name of Jesus I renounce the spirit of anxiety...

Command: ...and in the Name of Jesus I command this spirit to leave right now.

Blessing: Jesus, please bless me with your peace that transcends understanding to guard my heart and mind. Jesus I trust in you.

A Sample Prayer Against Perfectionism:

Repent: Jesus, please forgive me for any sinful perfectionism in all its forms...

Forgive: ...and please forgive anyone who helped instill this into me.

Renounce: In the name of Jesus I renounce the spirit of perfectionism...

Command: ...and in the Name of Jesus I command this spirit and any related spirits to leave right now.

Blessing: Jesus, please bless me with humble self-acceptance and love just as I am now and just as you love me right now.
